Camp nursing at North Star Camp is a great way to work with kids

 

We are looking for a nurse for our summer camp located in Hayward, WI.  We're located in beautiful Wisc. Lake country on a chain of 5 lakes.   North Star has a long established history (66 years) of providing quality camping experiences for boys from all over the country and some international campers as well.  Our small family environment of 175 campers and 70 staff allows us to build a caring community for the summer.  Our nurse has a lot of support.  Sue Lebby one of the Director is a Pediatric Nurse who trains, mentors and supervises our nurse.  We will provide a week long orientation on site with our first session Camp Nurse to get you started at this post.  We have volunteer Doctors and we use a Medical Director at a clinic in town.  Many of our staff have CPR and First Aid and some have advanced first aid training.  Our Health Center is well run and easy for a nurse to walk into and function professionally.   A new facility, our Health Center  is centrally located with nice accommodations for the nurse.  Our dates are from July 12--Aug. 15th.  Our salary is excellent and we include transportation and temporary licensure expenses.  Please check out our website @ www.northstarcamp.com.  We would love to answer any questions that you may have.  We love working with new grads.  Please email us at Sue@northstarcamp or call us collect at 520-577-7925

Title:  Camp Health Supervisor

Location:  Prescott, AZ - Camp Wamatochick

Requirements:

  • Must be a registered nurse in the state of Arizona

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with youth

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the total healthcare of the camp 
  • Coordinating basic camper health screenings upon camper arrival
  • Administering daily medical care including the treatment of injuries, monitoring of illness, and dispensing of prescription medications brought from home
  • Maintaining medical record keeping including the camp medication record journal

Supervision:  Camp Director

Compensation:

  • Starting at $400/week including room and board
  • Weekly positions available throughout the month of June

LOCATION: McCkintock High School
REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have Bachelor's degree and valid RN licnese.
• Must have two years nursing experience.
• Must have three semester hours in each of the following courses:
- School nursing practice
- Physical assessment of the school aged child
- The handicapped and chronically ill child

• Knowledge of school nursing program,its purpose and relationship to parent, child and school.
• Appropriate licensure for crtical care/medically fragile.
• If applicable, must obtain required certifications for being a District Service Claim (DSC) provider and fulfill all reporting responsibilities.

PREFERRED:

• Prior supervisory experience beneficial.
• Prior experience as a school nurse.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for coordinating the District's school nursing program.
• Plans, schedules and conducts regular meetings with school nurses, LPNs and health assistant staff.
• Coordinates training updates for school nurses and health assistants.
• Provides supervision for assigned District Health Care staff; works with Principals to evaluate LPNs and Health Assistants.
• Provides routine and emergency medical care to students, based upon studentneed.
• Works with district staff to develop and maintain preventative health program.
• Consults with LPNs & health assistants, in person or by phone, when an emergency situation arises, providing appropriate guidance for necessary care.
• Conducts home visits.
• Conducts visual and hearing tests and pre-physical exams.
• Counsels students and parents on health/medical problems.
• Assists in conducting physical exams as needed.
• Maintains student heqalth records as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISION: Principal
COMPENSATION: Full-time, Exempt Position - 185 Days, 40 Hours per Week (Nurses' Instructional Support Staff Schedule)

REQUIREMENTS:

• If applicable, must obtain required certifications for being a District Service Claim (DSC) provider and fulfill all reporting responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for coordinating the District's school nursing program and got assisting the District in maintaining an environment conducive to good health.
• Works with the district staff to develop and maintain a preventative health program
• Provides emergeency medical care
• Counsels students and parents on health/medical problems.
• Conducts home visits.
• Conducts visual and hearing tests and pre-physical exams.
• Assists in conducting physical exams as needed.
• Maintains student health records as needed.
• Advises staff regarding handicapped students
• Readmits students following illness
• Orders medical supplies, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISION: Principal
COMPENSATION: Full-time, Exempt Position - 185 Days, 40 Hours per Week (Nurses' Instructional Support Staff Schedule)
