National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders - Free Health Education Materials for Your Patients and Their Families, This site contains information on normal and disordered processes of human communication. The NIDCD provides health professionals and the public with information and other materials on hearing, balance, smell, taste, and voice communication.

Schering/KEY (SchoolAsthmaAllergy.com) - supports the efforts of school nurses by providing the most up-to-date tools, materials, and information available on pediatric and adolescent asthma and allergies.

The Cycle of Hope - a website sponsored by Bristol-Meyers Squibb on Lance Armstrong, It is designed to support early cancer detection; reduce fear associated with cancer. Materials can be obtained by calling the toll-free number 1-877-717-HOPE (4673) or by visiting the web site.

Jason's Story - Jason Struble's wish was that every middle school and high school male in the St. Louis area be educated about testicular cancer. This site has some great links to other resources.

KeepKidsHealthy.com - a pediatrician's guide to your children's healthy and safety from newborn to adolescent. Site includes information on asthma, car seat safety, child development, parent tips, nutrition guide, poison control, recalls, etc. Calculate Body Mass Index (BMI) on children.

Medical Home Project - This site is currently under construction 3/13/05. addresses the issue of access to care for children of low income families who do not qualify (or are in the process of qualifying) for AHCCCS or KidsCare. The goal of the MHP is to increase access to health care for Arizona's uninsured children.

Free or Low Cost Medications - Many pharmaceutical manufacturers have special programs to assist people who can't afford to buy the drugs they need.

Depressed Teens - this is an educational site dedicated to help teenagers and their parents and educators understand the signs and symptoms of teenage depression and provide resources for those ready to reach out and get the help they need.

Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) - school survey that collects data from students in grades 9-12. YRBS 1999 results, includes questions on a wide variety of health-related risk behaviors, not simply drug abuse

National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA) - NHSDA, sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is the primary source of statistical information on illicit drug use in the U.S. population 12 years of age and older.

National Institute on Drug Abuse - a site that uses research to significantly improve drug abuse and addiction prevention, treatment, and policy

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) - this site allows you to access numerous publications related to Violence and Victimization. Files are in HTML format or you can download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat to view each publication

The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools - this site offers information related to School Based Clinics, but much of the information can be used by school nurses in their own health offices or school sites; also contains lots of valuable "Links"

Brain: The World Inside Your Head - the is a great site to use for classroom education

Injury Prevention Web - a service of the San Diego State University and the State and Territorial Injury Prevention Directors' Association. This site hosts the links to several agencies and organizations working to prevent injuries. It also contains injury data for every U.S. state, more than 1100 links to government and more . . .

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) - an agency of the Department of Health & Human Services with many programs and links

Facts On Tap - although this site is geared to college student use of alcohol, drugs and other risky behaviors, it has good information that can be used with middle and high school student health education

MEDLINEPlus - health topics, drug information, dictionaries of medical terms, directories and more!

KidsHealth - the largest and most visited site on the web providing doctor-approved health information about children from before birth through adolescence. Content on KidsHealth is the equivalent of a 25-volume encyclopedia - and it's growing every week!

Parenting Special Needs Children - this site has many links to various special needs topics; however, the site also has lots of advertizements that pop up while browsing

Prevent Blindness of America - Children and Eye Problems

Center for Mental Health Services - many links to organizations and online resources related to children, adolescents, and family mental health issues

Sudden Arrythmia Death Syndrome (SADS) Foundation - check this site out to learn more about LQT Syndrome. The MISSION of this foundation is to identify those who are genetically predisposed to sudden death due to cardiac arrhythmias, and thereby save the lives of children and young adults.

Helping Students With Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel - this guide (in PDF format) was produced by the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) a federally sponsored partnership of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and more than 200 partner organizations.
